She was the assistant director of the research unit on violence and abuse at Leeds Metropolitan University, and is currently a visiting research fellow at Lincoln University. She was listed in The Independent’s “Pink List” in August 2010 as among the top 101 most influential gay and lesbian people in Britain. She is a patron for the feminist charity “For our daughters” and is the founder of feminist group “Justice for Women”.

In 2004 the Guardian apologised for publishing Bindel’s views on transsexuals. The Guardian have never apologised for publishing her views on men.
